Who is Jack Control?
Jack Control is the mastering engineer behind Enormous Door Mastering. He is also credited as Jack Conrow. His work is focused on heavy music, from underground debuts to label releases.
His credits include Darkthrone, Mork, Aura Noir and Frozen Soul. RUÏM's Black Royal Spiritism… (Peaceville Records), mastered by Jack Control, won the Norwegian Spellemann award for Best Metal Album 2023, and Darkthrone's Old Star was praised for its production by Last Rites. Mike Gitter, VP of A&R at Century Media Records, has praised Jack's quality, responsiveness, and fast turnaround of masters and revisions.
What is Enormous Door Mastering?
Enormous Door is a mastering studio built for heavy records: heavy analog mastering for bands, labels and engineers who need punch, weight and clarity without the life crushed out of the music. Every project gets its own masters for the formats it is released on, and every project starts with a personal reply from Jack, not an automated quote.
What services does Enormous Door offer?
- Heavy Mastering — the core path, with mastering direction by Jack Control. It comes in two delivery tiers: a Single-Format Master for one confirmed release format, and a Full Release Package with all the standard masters needed for the confirmed formats.
- Beyond Heavy — the flagship collaboration of Jack Control and Maor Appelbaum. Jack shapes direction, genre feel, sequencing, impact and format decisions; Maor brings an elite mastering chain and a second high-level perspective. One fixed price per length covers all required release formats. It is for release-ready mixes only, slots are limited, and fit is confirmed in 24–48 hours before scheduling. Beyond Heavy records are credited "Mastered by Jack Control and Maor Appelbaum".
- Mixing — a curated network of heavy-music mixing engineers, booked through the same Start Your Project form.
- Vinyl pressing — Enormous Door does not press records. Most projects are pressed at plants of the client's choosing. Pressing questions are pointed to partner Helios Pressing (see vinyl pressing), and Enormous Door is the exclusive mastering engineer for Helios clients who need mastering at the pressing stage.
What formats does Enormous Door master for?
Vinyl, streaming, CD/DDP, cassette, Bandcamp and digital download, MP3 and video. Every release format gets its own master, because each medium needs its own treatment and formatting:
- Vinyl: a Side A WAV file and a Side B WAV file, prepared around side length, level, high-frequency and low-end energy, sequencing and pressing-plant requirements. A vinyl master is never usable as a streaming master. Side lengths are covered on Vinyl Times and the process on Vinyl Mastering.
- CD: a DDP image with PQ info, plus ISRC, UPC and CD-Text if provided.
- Streaming: individual WAV files from the approved master, formatted correctly for the intended platform.
- Bandcamp and download: high-quality WAV suitable for sale and platform conversion.
- Cassette: cassette-specific masters when the release needs them.
- MP3: convenience copies only, never a mastering or manufacturing source.
